Mold in Your Home?

Protect your home and family from mold toxins. It doesn’t matter what time of year it is, a home can be infected by mold without you even being aware of it.

What is Mold? Molds are microorganisms causing damage to your home and can put your family’s health at risk. Wherever there is moisture, molds can be seen and smelled, appearing as black stains, a furry growth, or spots of brown, green, or orange.

Identifying Mold Problems. Do a complete visual inspection in attic, roof, basement, behind ceiling panels, water damage around doors and windows, plumbing leaks in bathroom and kitchen, moisture on window sills, musty odor on carpets and rugs.

Causes of Mold Growth. The key is to control moisture. Good ventilation is important. Lack of insulation in the attic or basement is not good.

Health Risks. Irritation to the eye, nose, skin and throat. Excessive coughing. Runny nose and build-up of phlegm. Shortness of breath and wheezing. Headaches. Sneezing.

Mold Removal and Testing. To remove mold use soap and water, baking soda and water, or commercial cleaning products. Be sure to wear a mask when doing this. Call an expert when you have a large mold problem.
